Mariners Knock Off Athletics at Safeco Field
|
Seattle picked up a win at Safeco Field, bumping off the Oakland Athletics, 8-2. Pitcher Billy Hart was a major reason the Mariners emerged victorious. Hart picked up the win for Seattle, going 8 innings. He gave up 2 runs on 4 hits. He now sports a record of 7-11. Seattle is now 56-41, Oakland 51-46.
Jesús Cortéz, who finished 3rd in the AL in RBI with 108 last year, contributed to the Seattle win with a grand slam home run in the bottom of the fifth. For the game, the third baseman had 2 hits in 4 at-bats with 1 home run, 1 single, 1 run scored, and 4 runs batted in.
"The boys were really swinging the bats today," winning manager Scott Pogue said.
