Phillies Hang 5-3 Loss on Giants
|
The Philadelphia Phillies defeated the San Francisco Giants, 5-3, in National League action at Citizens Bank Park. Philadelphia pitcher Tony Brown had a standout performance. Philadelphia reliever Chris Spence picked up the win, raising his record to 7-1. Mike Thomas was tagged with the loss. Jorge Trevino picked up the save for Philadelphia, his 30th of the year.
Oliver Rivera hit a run-scoring triple off Mike Thomas in the bottom of the seventh, which put the Phillies in front, 4-3. In addition to the triple, Rivera had 1 single and 1 walk, while going 2 for 3.
"The key at this level is throwing strike one," said Brown. "Successful pitchers do it."
Philadelphia is now 53-50, San Francisco 46-57.
