Red Sox Stop Cardinals, 3-1
|
The Boston Red Sox defeated the St. Louis Cardinals, 3-1, in American League action at Fenway Park. Boston pitcher Raúl Chávez had a standout performance. Jim Cox earned his 26th save in 31 chances. The Red Sox improved to 50-54.
Eric Taylor had a big run-scoring double for the Red Sox in the bottom of the fifth inning. With Boston leading 1-0 and a runner on 1st, he got a slider from Walt Boisson and swatted a double to left. It was his 9th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Red Sox ahead, 2-0.
"It was a good effort all around," said Taylor.
