Extra-Inning Walk-Off Win for Orioles
|
Víctor Castillo was outstanding against Detroit. The right-hander, who is tied for 6th in the AL in wins with 14, had a changeup that was virtually unhittable at times. The result was a Orioles 1-0 win. Edgardo Gonzáles earned the win after being called from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed no runs on no hits in 2 innings. He upped his record to 2-2. Baltimore, at 71-56, is 7 games up in the American League Eastern Division.
The clutch at-bat came in the bottom of the tenth inning, when Baltimore catcher Lúcio Nereida, facing Steve Matthews, had a run-scoring walk. It gave the Orioles the 1-0 win.
"This is a resilient bunch," said Baltimore manager Mike Smith.
