With right fielder Sandy Briggs leading the charge, the Cincinnati Reds defeated the Houston Astros, 8-5, at Great American Ball Park. Briggs, who finished 2nd in the NL in home runs with 43 in 2036, went 3 for 4 with a home run and a double. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2. Sam Santos earned the win for Cincinnati. He lasted 6 innings, allowing 3 runs on 9 hits, while striking out 5. With the win, he raised his record to 7-8. The Reds now have a record of 54-81 with the win over Houston.

Arturo Patino had a big hit for Cincinnati in the bottom of the fifth inning. With Cincinnati leading 4-3, Patino hit a 2-run double. It was his 5th double of the season and put the Reds up, 6-3.
