The Seattle Mariners picked up a win at Safeco Field, knocking off the Texas Rangers, 6-5. Starting pitcher Luis Román played a key role in the triumph. Jarred Haig recorded the save, his 48th. The second-place Mariners improved to 89-62.

Seattle took a 6-5 lead in the bottom of the eighth inning. With two out, pinch hitter José Ortíz hit a 2-run home run that set the crowd abuzz.

"You know, at the end of the day, it's about who scores the most runs," said Seattle manager Scott Pogue.
