Clutch Hitting Delivers Win for Reds
|
The performance of Ed Jones proved critical in helping Cincinnati beat Washington, 7-5. The Reds third baseman was 2 for 4 with a home run, while scoring 2 times and driving in 2. Cincinnati reliever Sergio Acuña was the winner. His record is now 6-7. The losing pitcher was Jimmy Reid. The save went to Wilson Jiménez, number 32 for him.
Cincinnati took a 7-5 lead on Arturo Patino's 2nd triple of the season. The 2-run triple, which Patino hit in the bottom of the eighth, left Washington pitcher J.J. Bailey shaking his head.
In postgame comments to the Cincinnati Daily News, Patino said, "If the effort is there, the wins will come."
The win makes Cincinnati 60-96.
