Villarreal Gets #400
|
Washington Nationals slugging catcher António Villarreal swatted his way to the 400 home run mark today as the Nationals fell to the New York (N) 5-1.
For his part, Villarreal chipped in 1 RBI, scored 1 run and collected 2 hits in 4 at-bats, but it was not enough to turn the tide.
"It was a special day for António," the team publicist said afterward. "He was disappointed at the result, but everyone was all smiles as he crossed home plate. We're proud of him."
Lifetime Villarreal is hitting .284 with 306 doubles, 10 triples, 400 home runs, 1060 RBIs and 903 runs scored. He has appeared in 1461 games to date and delivered 1491 hits.
