The Carolina Catamounts did just enough to sneak past the Mexico City Padres, 3-2, at Carolina Grounds. Carolina pitcher Raúl Martínez, in particular, had a standout performance. Carolina reliever Randy Stephenson was the winner. His record is now 1-0. Chun-hua Guo took the loss. Liam Dealey earned the save for Carolina, his 2nd of the year.

Ken Ransley, who finished 5th in the NL in runs with 119 in 2037, aided the Carolina cause with a run-scoring ground out in the bottom of the sixth. For the game, the third baseman drove in one run.

"If we keep winning the close games," Martínez said, "we'll be in good shape at the end."

The loss drops Mexico City to 1-4.
