Rome Ace Wins A+ East Outstanding Pitcher Award

The Rome clubhouse staff referred to him as "the kid" this season. Next year Jerry Mayes will have to have a new nickname. He earned it after winning the 2041 High-A East Outstanding Pitcher Award.

Mayes made 28 starts this year, winning 11 and losing 6. He threw 156.1 innings, fanned 290, allowed 81 hits and 54 walks, while holding opposing teams to a .154 average as he logged an impressive 1.50 ERA.

He received 6 first place votes out of a possible 14. Toby Brodbeck of the Bowling Green Hot Rods finished second in voting with 5 first place votes, while Erik Hickok of the Greenville Drive finished third with 3 first place votes.
