Rays End Smith's Streak Tuesday, August 30th, 2033 Elizabethton catcher Eric Smith came into today's game against the Princeton Rays on a hot streak. He left on a cold one. The Rays did their jobs well, beating the Elizabethton Twins 11-0 and holding Smith hitless to snap his 20-game hitting streak. The 23-year-old catcher had a few words to say after finishing 0-for-3, telling reporters only that he "came up short." "What Eric did was exciting and quite an achievement," said Twins manager . "It's tough enough to get one hit in this league, much less go 20 games in a row. I'm even more proud of the way he handled the press coverage. He never let the frenzy get to him or affect his play." This year Smith has hit at a .380 clip with 89 hits, 6 home runs, 65 RBIs and 47 runs scored. |
