Detroit (VSL) Ace Named VSL Outstanding Hitter Award Sunday, September 23rd, 2029 When you have the type of year Kevin Owens did, it's no surprise when you get named the recipient of the Outstanding Hitter Award. The 31-year-old captured the award for the Venezuelan Summer League today after a year in which the Detroit (VSL) Tigers pitcher excelled. In 13 starts he piled up 73.1 innings, had 172 strikeouts with 17 walks and a 0.61 ERA. Owens held opposing hitters to a .072 batting average and compiled a 4.5 WAR along the way. He received 5 first place votes, as a unanimous winner. Juan Martínez of the Tampa Bay (VSL) Rays finished second in voting, while Nicodemo Aranha of the Tampa Bay (VSL) Rays finished third.
