Cubs Prevail, as Wildcard Series Goes to the Wire Thursday, October 17th, 2024 The Chicago (N) Cubs are heading to the Division Series, having narrowly defeated the Los Angeles (N) Dodgers. Chicago (N) edged Los Angeles (N) in the series 2-1, with a win at Dodger Stadium in the clinching game by a 7-6 margin. Joey Carlisle turned in a strong offensive performance for the Cubs and got series MVP for his efforts. "I'll never turn down another trophy for my mantle, another accomplishment to remember once my career is over," he said. "What I would really remember, though, is a World Series win." It remains to be seen how the playoffs will conclude, but if Carlisle continues to swing a hot bat, his team will no doubt have a chance. For the series, he hit .385 with a .385 on-base percentage. He had 1 home runs, 4 RBI and scored 2 runs. The Chicago (N) Cubs will play against the Pittsburgh Pirates in the next round. Pittsburgh had a bye in the Wildcard Series.
