Road Win Lifts Texas to 1-0 Lead in WC
The Texas Rangers powered past the hometown Kansas City Royals, 4-1, in the opener of the Wild Card Round at Kauffman Stadium today. Texas starting pitcher Alfonso Garcia threw 6 innings of 4-hit ball, to lead the charge. The Rangers now lead the series 1-0.

Texas first baseman I-gap Byon had a key at-bat for the Rangers in the top of the sixth inning. Facing Kansas City pitcher Phil Hughes, Byon hit a 2-run double to make the score 4-1, Texas. For the day, he went 1 for 4 with a double. He drove in 2 runs.

Garcia attributed the win to "energy and focus on the part of everyone."

Game 2 is scheduled for Friday at The Ballpark at Arlington in Arlington. The scheduled starters for the game are Adam Wainwright for Kansas City and Jose Herrera for Texas.
