New York Loses Again, 4-1
|
St. Louis starter Sandy Gaston pitched well against the New York Mets at Citi Field. The right-hander led his team to a win, 4-1. Gaston went 7 innings to notch the win. He scattered 5 hits, walked 1, and struck out 6. His record improves to 5-8. Giovanny Gallegos was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 24 of 26 save opportunities.
St. Louis used the bat of Nolan Gorman to get the win. The third baseman hammered a 2-run home run in the top of the fourth inning to put the Cardinals ahead, 2-1. It was his lone hit in 3 at-bats, but it did its damage.
"It was a solid team effort," Gaston said. "That's usually what it takes to win."
