Mets Defeat Pirates, 3-1
|
New York beat Pittsburgh in a rain-soaked ballgame.
In a well-pitched game between the New York Mets and the Pittsburgh Pirates, pitcher Adam Tulloch was superb. The New York left-hander helped his team win, 3-1. The winner in relief was Alex Valverde. The right-hander allowed no runs on 2 hits in 2 innings. He now owns a record of 1-0. The save was credited to Edwin Díaz, his 40th.
The Mets got a big hit from left fielder Brennen Davis. In the bottom of the sixth, Davis pounded a 2-run home run to left-center. His 26th home run of the season put the Mets ahead, 3-1.
"We'll hit the hot tub in good spirits tonight," said Davis.
The triumph puts New York at 81-78 for the season.
