Nationals Deal Athletics 5-2 Loss
|
Juan Soto was a major contributor to the 5-2 Washington win over Oakland. The Nationals left fielder was 1-2 with a home run and 2 walks, while scoring 2 and driving in 2. Washington pitcher Michael Kopech got the win. He's now 1-1. Ryan Vanderhei was tagged with the loss. Joan Adon earned save number 1 this season.
Bob Ellis, the 32-year old center fielder , had a direct impact on the outcome. Ellis contributed a 2-run single in the top of the first inning to put Washington up, 2-0.
"This level of focus will win us a lot of ballgames," Ellis said after the game.
The win brings the Nationals to 5-10, an awful start for a team that made the playoffs just last season.
