Avalanche Whitewash Warthogs, Benson Winner
|
In an outstanding mound performance, Salem Avalanche starter Kris Benson fired a complete-game shutout against the Winston-Salem Warthogs at Salem Memorial Stadium today.
Benson was the key to the Avalanche's 4-0 win. The 35-year-old right-hander was in high spirits on the mount for much of the game, his mood largely undented by the 2 hits and no walks he allowed.
"2 hits?" he said with a laugh following the game. "Listen, I'd be happy with a 30-hitter as long as it was a shutout."
This season Benson has compiled a 2-2 mark with a 4.38 ERA in 5 starts.
