The Mavericks grabbed a win, 5-4, at Trigg Memorial Field at Los Angeles Stadium, overcoming a fine effort from Los Angeles pitcher Ukko Lipponen. Lipponen went 6.1 innings and allowed 2 runs. Portland occupies last place in the Federal League Pacific Division at 68-91.

Portland used a timely hit from Martino Iglésia to get the win. The shortstop stroked a 2-run double in the top of the seventh inning to put the Mavericks ahead, 3-1. It was his only hit in 3 at-bats, but it made an impact.

In postgame comments to the Portland Daily, Iglésia said, "If the effort is there, the wins will come."
