White Sox Even With RedLeafs After Extra-Innings Win
|
The Chicago White Sox and the Toronto RedLeafs will take the Budweiser Doubleday Classic to a decisive final game. Facing a must-win situation at Loblaws Park at RedLeaf Gardens today, the White Sox went into extra innings to beat the hometown RedLeafs 3-1 and knot the series at 1-1. Chicago right-hander Alje Groenenberg threw 6.0 innings of 3-hit ball.
Chicago used a clutch hit from Andy Sanders to get the win. The right fielder drilled a solo home run in the top of the 12th inning to put the White Sox ahead, 2-1. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
Groenenberg called the triumph "a good team win."
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Loblaws Park at RedLeaf Gardens in Toronto.
