The New York Kings scored a tight 3-2 win versus the Portland Mavericks at Little Caesars Pizza Palace. New York pitcher Ken Kirk held his own in the contest. The winning pitcher was Kirk, now 6-3. He tossed 7 innings of 4-hit ball, while walking 2 and fanning 7. The Kings lead the Players League Metropolitan Division by 2½ games.
New York took the lead in the bottom of the sixth. With two out and runners on 1st and 2nd, Powell Jones stroked a run-scoring single to make it 3-2, Kings.
"We made a couple of mistakes," said Portland skipper Scott Jefferies, "and it cost us."
