Colonials Use Late Score to Top Diablos, 1-0
|
Boston Colonials starter Wilson Mendoza was dealing. He helped his team knock off the Mexico City Diablos, 1-0. Mendoza, now 8-4, was the winner. In 7.1 innings, he gave up 5 hits, while striking out 6, walking 2, and allowing no runs. Lex Schit got the save, his 25th in 29 chances.
Boston used the timely hitting of Zhu-lan Gang to seize the win. The left fielder stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Colonials on top, 1-0. It was his only hit in 3 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"Can't say enough about our pitching," said Gang.
The third-place Colonials sport a record of 55-59.
