Dusty Brubaker got his name recorded today, but the Grand Island Valkyrie picked up the win at Westerners Stadium, topping the Sioux Falls Firebirds, 9-7. "He bushwhacked us," said winning manager Kyle Atkins. "We were lucky to come out ahead." Brubaker, who is tied for 10th in the in extra base hits with 28, spoke to reporters in the clubhouse following the game, saying his nerves only set in once he was on the cusp of the milestone. "I got too much adrenaline going when I realized that this could be a once-in-a-lifetime day," the center fielder said. "I think the coaches could tell I was going to be ready to swing at anything close. That's why my third base coach told me to calm down and wait for a good pitch. That got me back on track." Dusty Brubaker doubled in the 1st, singled in the 2nd, doubled in the 4th, singled in the 7th and hit a two-run single in the 8th. Brubaker is swinging at a .294 pace on the year with 6 home runs, 47 RBIs and 61 runs scored. He has played in 115 games. |
