Mike Mussina pitched well enough to win, but it was not to be. The Milwaukee Brewers, despite Mussina's fine outing, dropped a 3-1 decision to the New York Mets at Milwaukee County Stadium 1976. The Mets have an impressive 41-26 record.
Roberto Alomar, who finished 5th in the NL in triples with 8 in 1996, had a direct impact on the outcome. Alomar contributed a 2-run single in the top of the eighth inning to put New York up, 3-1.
"This team is on a mission," said Alomar, who is one of the clubhouse leaders. "I like our focus."
