New York Earns 3-2 Win
|
The New York Mets had to overcome a good performance from Philadelphia pitcher Donnie Blair to claim a 3-2 win at Veterans Stadium 1971. Blair went 7 innings and allowed 2 runs. The winner in relief was Justin Kaye. He is now 9-6. The right-hander allowed no runs on no hits in 1.1 innings. Lisandro Corba collected save number 2.
New York used the timely hitting of Francisco Mendez to seize the win. The right fielder stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Mets on top, 3-2. It was his only hit in 3 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"Winning the game is always the first objective," Mendez said.
Today's win puts New York at 84-57, while Philadelphia falls to 77-62.
