Yankees Top Red Sox, 7-4
|
The New York Yankees needed 10 innings to defeat the Boston Red Sox, 7-4, at Fenway Park 1976. New York center fielder Randy Winn had a superb performance. He went 4-5 with a double, 3 singles, and a walk. He scored 2 runs and drove in 3. John Braase snagged the win in relief. He goes to 1-6 on the season. Tim Grieve suffered the loss. New York, at 41-27, is 2 games up in the American League East Division.
Winn had a game-changing double in the top of the tenth. On a 1-1 fastball from Tim Grieve, he banged a bases-clearing double to left-center, giving the Yankees a 7-4 lead. It was the 24th double of the year for Winn.
"If it's down the middle," said Winn, "you might as well hit it."
