In a low-scoring game between the New York Mets and the Philadelphia Phillies, pitcher Greg Maddux was the difference-maker. The New York right-hander was tough as nails in the 3-2 Mets win. With the victory, the Mets upped their record to 83-72.
Edgardo Alfonzo, who is tied for 2nd in the NL in triples with 8, had a direct impact on the outcome. Alfonzo contributed a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the top of the ninth inning to put New York up, 3-2.
"You get some opportunities, you better take advantage of them," said Philadelphia manager Dan Taylor.
