Dave Veres was superb against Atlanta. The right-hander, who is tied for 9th in the NL in wins with 15, had a fastball that was virtually unhittable at times. The result was a Marlins victory. The score was 6-3. Veres yielded 2 runs over 7 innings to notch the win. He scattered 3 hits, walked 2, and struck out 12. His record improves to 15-13. R.A. Dickey picked up his 17th save of the season.
Who knows how it might've ended, had it not been for Ramon Valera? The Florida third baseman had a 2-run double in the top of the fifth inning to put the Marlins on top, 4-2. For the game, Valera had 1 double and 2 singles in 4 at-bats.
"Dave was cooking with gas," said Florida manager Adam Contreras.
The last-place Marlins are now 56-105, the Braves 59-102.
