Cincinnati Wins, 4-2, in Extra Innings
|
The Cincinnati Reds took Philadelphia pitcher Donnie Blair's best shot and still were able to claim a win at Veterans Stadium 1971. The final score had Cincinnati getting past the Phillies, 4-2. Blair went 7 innings and allowed 1 run, striking out 7. Picking up the save was Matthew Gindorff, his 1st. With the win over Philadelphia, the Reds improved to 61-100.
Cincinnati used the timely hitting of Rob De Boer to seize the win. The catcher stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the 11th inning to put the Reds on top, 3-2. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.
"Tough ballgame, tough loss," said Philadelphia manager Dan Taylor.
