Yankees Take Nail-Biter Over Mariners
|
The Seattle Mariners got a sterling performance from pitcher Mark Gubicza, but the New York Yankees still prevailed, 6-5. Gubicza threw 7.0 innings of 3-hit ball. Pablo Chavira, now 5-9, was credited with the win. He allowed no runs on no hits, while striking out 1 and walking 0. New York, at 80-73, occupies second place in the American League East Division.
The Yankees procured the win, in large part because of center fielder Randy Winn. In the bottom of the tenth, he produced the game-winning run-scoring double.
"This place was rocking at the end," Winn said.
