Narrow Win Takes Kansas City Streak to 7
|
The Kansas City Royals overcame a good performance by Cleveland first baseman Andy Tracy to knock off Cleveland, 8-7, in 13 innings at Cleveland Stadium 1980. Tracy was 2 for 5 with a home run and 2 walks. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2. Kansas City reliever Tommy Greene picked up the win, raising his record to 7-5. Steve Woodard was tagged with the loss. Kevin Brown earned his 1st save in 1 chances.
Kansas City used the timely hitting of Alex Rodriguez to seize the win. The second baseman stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the 13th inning to put the Royals on top, 8-7. It was his only hit in 2 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"You can't hate how you win if you win," said Kansas City skipper Gamma KC.
At 51-29, the Royals are currently second in the American League Central Division.
