Indians Win Nail-Biter
|
Cleveland and Pittsburgh left the crowd in suspense until the final out.
Starting pitcher Ted Lilly did his part in helping the Cleveland Indians thwart the Pittsburgh Pirates, 2-1. The win was credited to 30-year old right-handed pitcher Dave Adam in relief. His record improves to 6-4. Armando Cuevas took the loss.
Jeff Ladd came through with a big-time hit for Cleveland. The catcher smacked a solo home run in the top of the tenth inning to give his team the lead, 2-1. It was his only hit, but it was clutch.
"That's baseball," said Pittsburgh manager Alan Hounsell. "You're not always going to be hitting on all cylinders."
The Indians lead the American League Central Division by 2 games.
