Clutch Hitting Delivers Win for Braves
|
The Atlanta Braves beat the Arizona Diamondbacks, 7-4, at Chase Field. Atlanta shortstop Chipper Jones had an outstanding performance. He was 3 for 5 with a double and 2 singles, while scoring 2 and driving in 2. Alejandro Pena, 2-0, earned the win in relief. He allowed no runs on 1 hit in 2 innings. Picking up the save was Darrell Higgs, his 5th.
Jones had a game-changing double in the top of the ninth. On a first pitch cutter from Carl Hamilton, he banged a 2-run double to right, giving the Braves a 6-4 lead. It was the 6th double of the year for Jones.
"We took advantage of our opportunities," Jones told the Atlanta Times. "It's as simple as that."
The Diamondbacks, now 8-23, continue their poor start.
