Giants Nip Cubs, 4-3
|
The San Francisco Giants did just enough to sneak past the Chicago Cubs, 4-3, at Wrigley Field 1979. San Francisco pitcher John Martinez, in particular, had a standout performance. Gary Wayne closed the game out for San Francisco, earning his 2nd save. The first-place Giants, at 69-47, now lead their division by 10 games.
San Francisco used the hitting of Adam Kennedy to pick up the win. The second baseman clubbed a 2-run home run in the top of the sixth inning to put the Giants on top, 2-0. For the game, Kennedy had 1 home run and 1 single in 4 at-bats.
"We were the better team," crowed Kennedy.
