The Baltimore Orioles outlasted Shannon Stewart and the Chicago White Sox, 9-8. Stewart was impressive in the loss. The Chicago left fielder went 4 for 5 with a double and 3 singles, while scoring 2. The win was credited to 26-year old right-handed pitcher Dustin Hermanson in relief. His record improves to 2-1. Manny Rodriguez took the loss. Baltimore now sits at 47-75, while Chicago falls to 54-69.

The White Sox had been locked in a 5-5 tie with the Orioles going into the bottom of the fifth inning. That changed quickly when the former first round draft pick Bret Boone came to the plate. Boone hit a grand slam home run on a full count fastball from Chicago hurler Alberto Cabrera. It was Boone's 16th home run of the year.

"I had a good game," said Boone. "Winning makes it even better."
