The Kansas City Royals defeated the Minnesota Twins, 7-3. Center Fielder Preston Wilson deserved a large share of the credit. Wilson went 4-4 with 2 home runs and a double. He drove in 4 runs and scored twice for the Royals. Armando Barajas claimed the win after being brought in from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 2 innings. His record stands at 9-5. Kansas City, at 90-39, holds down first place in the American League Central Division.

The game was at a stalemate until right fielder Cliff Floyd came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Minnesota pitcher Pedro Feliciano, he hit a 1-0 sinker for a 2-run single. It was a game-changer, putting Kansas City on top, 5-3.

In postgame remarks, Wilson said: "To all who've been doubting my effort -- I hope they saw this game."
