Cardinals Sneak By Expos, 4-3
|
The St. Louis Cardinals took Montreal pitcher Chris Carpenter's best shot and still were able to claim a win at Olympic Stadium. The final score had St. Louis getting past the Expos, 4-3. Carpenter went 7 innings and allowed 1 run, striking out 1. The win belonged to Todd Meady in relief. His record improves to 1-0. Eric Gagne took the loss for Montreal. Jim Hickey earned save number 3 this season.
Marcus Thames came through with a big-time hit for St. Louis. The pinch hitter smacked a 2-run home run in the top of the ninth inning to give his team the lead, 4-3. It was his only hit, but it was clutch.
Thames attributed the win to his team's "tenacity."
With the win, St. Louis is 9-13.
