Red Sox Pin 6-2 Loss on Toronto
|
The game between Boston and Toronto is in the books, despite a little rain.
The Boston Red Sox picked up a win at Fenway Park 1976, topping the Toronto Blue Jays, 6-2. On the mound for Boston was right-hander Bret Saberhagen. He played a principal role in the triumph. Saberhagen, now 6-0, was the winner. In 7.2 innings, he gave up 5 hits, while striking out 8, walking 0, and allowing 1 run.
Matt Lawton had a big 2-run home run for the Red Sox in the bottom of the second inning. With Boston leading 2-0 and a runner on 2nd, he sized up a sinker from 27-year old right-handed pitcher Salomon Torres and punished it. The result was his 3rd home run of the season, which put the Red Sox on top, 4-0.
"Bret went out and got the job done," said Red Sox manager Geno Boston.
Boston has a record of 20-21, placing them second in the American League East Division.
