White Sox Beaten By Indians, 7-3
|
The Cleveland Indians beat the Chicago White Sox, 7-3. Cleveland pitcher and Grand Rapids, Michigan, native Mark Dewey led the way. The win lifted the Cleveland record to 31-14.
John Jaha had a big 3-run home run for the Indians in the bottom of the first inning. With Cleveland leading 1-0 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he sized up a slider from Michael Costello, who finished 3rd in the NL in wins with 17 in 1996, and punished it. The result was his 7th home run of the season, which put the Indians on top, 4-0.
Jaha called the win "a lesson in teamwork."
