Blue Jays Win, 2-0, Versus Atlanta
|
Toronto starter Ed Martel pitched well against the Atlanta Braves at Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium 1974. The right-hander led his team to a win, 2-0. The winner was Toronto reliever Rafael Gutierrez, now 2-3. The loser was Chris Beasley. With the win, Toronto goes to 30-31, while the Braves fall to 15-43.
Toronto used the timely hitting of Jermaine Allensworth to seize the win. The center fielder stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Blue Jays on top, 1-0. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"I have a job to do," Allensworth said, "and I did it."
