Mariners Lose, 4-1, at Cleveland Stadium 1980
|
The Cleveland Indians picked up a win at Cleveland Stadium 1980, downing the Seattle Mariners, 4-1. On the mound for Cleveland was right-hander Mark Dewey, who played a pivotal role in the win. Dewey got the win, improving to 8-3. He gave up 7 hits and walked 0 over 7.2 innings. He allowed 1 run. Dave Adam finished the game for Cleveland and earned his 3rd save.
Marquis Grissom had a big 2-run double for the Indians in the bottom of the fourth inning. With Cleveland leading 2-0 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he got a curveball from Bob Valladares, who finished 4th in the AL in wins with 18 last year, and swatted a double to left. It was his 2nd double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Indians ahead, 4-0.
"We made a couple of mistakes," said Seattle skipper John Healy, "and it cost us."
Cleveland, at 44-21, is 4 games up in the American League Central Division.
