Torcato Blisters Walla Walla Friday, July 23rd , 1999 Bellingham Mariners third baseman Tony Torcato had a day to remember at Rage Ballpark, ripping apart the Walla Walla Walleyes and sparking the 7-6 Mariners win. Torcato wrote his name in the record books with a 5-hit barrage, finishing his special day 5-for-8. "I'm usually a first ball hitter," Torcato told BNN reporters in the postgame press conference. "I think pitchers think batters are going to let the first one go by. I never do. I've always found that it's better to pull the trigger early in the count. Pitchers get real nasty when they get ahead of you, so I try to avoid it." Tony Torcato grounded out in the 2nd, singled in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, flied out in the 7th, grounded out in the 9th, singled in the 12th, walked in the 13th, doubled in the 16th and singled in the 18th.
