Athletics Upend Aviators, 3-1
|
New Jersey and North Carolina duked it out and the Athletics came out victorious.
The New Jersey Athletics banked on Jelle van Gorp and he turned in a masterful performance. The right-hander kept the North Carolina hitters in check. The final score was 3-1, Athletics. van Gorp got the win, improving to 4-4. He gave up 1 hit and walked 1 over 6.2 innings. He allowed 1 run. The save went to Paul Torr, his 13th this season.
New Jersey won the game in part because of Joe Swanson. The designated hitter ripped a solo home run in the top of the fifth inning to put the Athletics ahead, 2-1. For the game, Swanson had 1 double and 2 home runs in 4 at-bats.
"I thought Jelle threw the ball well across the board," said New Jersey manager Mike Trigwell.
At 31-34, the Athletics are currently second in the Patriot League North.
