North Carolina got a big-time effort from pitcher Adam Capehart, but it wasn't enough to keep the Kentucky Lions from winning the game, 3-2. Capehart threw 7.0 innings of 3-hit ball for the losing team. Joel Augustus was the winner. Over 7.1 innings, he allowed 2 runs on 4 hits, with 2 walks and 4 strikeouts. Kane Finzer earned the save for Kentucky, his 30th of the year.
Kentucky used the timely hitting of Mike Swanson to seize the win. The third baseman stroked a 2-run single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Lions on top, 3-1. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"We'll sip on a cold one and savor this win," said Swanson.
With the win, Kentucky goes to 58-66, while the Aviators fall to 61-63.
