Athletics Drop Explorers, 5-4
|
In the 5-4 New Jersey win over Oregon, the impact of Roman Contreras was substantial. Contreras, who finished 5th in the PL in stolen bases with 43 in 2069, went 1-2 with 2 walks. The win was credited to 33-year old right-handed pitcher Giel Wiegman in relief. His record improves to 1-0. Eric Joline took the loss. Bill Banko closed the game out for New Jersey, earning his 7th save.
With the game tied, 4-4, in the bottom of the fifth, Contreras had a key at-bat for New Jersey. With the bases loaded, Contreras hit a run-scoring single off Eric Joline, making the score 5-4, Athletics.
"We need to string a few more wins like this one together," said Contreras.
The Athletics go to 13-24 with the win.
