Athletics Nipped, 2-0, by Pennsylvania
|
PNC Park featured a tense pitchers' duel.
Pennsylvania beat New Jersey on the strength of starting pitcher Oscar Gomez's fine effort. The left-hander led his team to a win, 2-0. Reliever Tangaloa Akeakamai picked up the win. His record improves to 6-4. Jelle van Gorp, who is tied for 2nd in the PL in innings pitched with 176.0, took the loss.
The game was at a stalemate until third baseman Craig Nix came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing New Jersey pitcher Edgardo Paulino, he hit a full count fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Pennsylvania on top, 1-0.
"Oscar executed his pitches at a high level," said Pennsylvania manager Mike Kritikos.
With the win, Pennsylvania raised its record to 68-64.
