Dodgers KO Colonels Saturday, September 29th , 1962 The Omaha Dodgers ignited a huge celebration as they beat the Louisville Colonels 7-5 to win the Round 1. Omaha won the series 4-3, capturing the title for the 1st time. "We stepped it up at the right time, and now we're the champs," said Omaha manager Felix Dusenbery. "It's a great feeling." The champs finished the regular season 98-52 and claimed first place in the American Association. In the jubilant clubhouse after the decisive game, series MVP and third baseman Johnny Werhas said the Dodgers have "great fans and they deserve this." "I am so happy for our city right now," he said. |
