Gross Grabs AA Reliever of the Year Award
Wednesday, October 10th , 1962
The Reliever of the Year Award goes to the American Association reliever who put forward the strongest season.
This season, that player was Don Gross of the Oklahoma City 89ers, who was above all his peers in 1962.
"I just feel like the ball was doing what I wanted it to this year and I was in command most nights out there," he said. "Some days you don't have your best stuff, but I didn't have too many of those days this year."
On the season, Gross pitched 92 innings, with 85 strikeouts and an ERA of 3.23. He also had 13 saves in 56 relief appearances.
He received 6 first place votes, as a unanimous winner. Phil Niekro of the Louisville Colonels finished second in voting, while Ken Mackenzie of the Louisville Colonels finished third.
