In a pivotal Game , the Tampa Bay Rays were hoping for a big game from starter Blake Snell. They got one.

The left-hander shut out the Chicago Cubs, proving to be the difference-maker as he led his club to a 2-0 victory. The Rays took the 2-0 win over the Chicago Cubs to seize a - lead in the best-of- series.

The Cubs had trouble solving Snell, who surrendered no earned runs on 2 hits over 6.1 innings.

"We played hard and won," said Snell. "Sometimes, baseball really is that easy.'

Game 2 is set to be played tomorrow at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg. The scheduled starters for the game are Yu Darvish for Chicago and Drew Pomeranz for Tampa Bay.
