Tatis Jr. Lifts Padres to 6-3 Triumph
|
The San Diego Padres beat the San Francisco Giants, 6-3, at Candlestick Park. Fernando Tatis Jr., in particular, was impressive. He went 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 singles, while scoring 2 and driving in 3. The winning pitcher was John Smoltz. His record is now 8-3. The right-hander went 7 innings, allowing 2 runs on 10 hits for the Padres. Peter Strzelecki collected save number 17.
Tatis Jr. contributed a big hit, a 2-run home run, for San Diego in the top of the fourth. With his team trailing 1-0, Tatis Jr. took a slider from Rich Hill and stroked the home run to left. His 8th home run of the season allowed the Padres to leap in front, 2-1.
"There's never a lack of effort in our clubhouse. We're willing to do the little things to get the win," Tatis Jr. told the San Diego Bulletin.
The first-place Padres are now 48-24, the Giants 24-46.
